The Family

Hunting has been the common thread uniting generations of the Pietranera family. The story begins with Leone Pietranera (1901), whose passion led him on an African safari in 1936 and to acquire the family’s first hunting estate in Reggio Emilia in 1947.

His son Paolo (1940) carried this legacy forward, managing the Črnomelj hunting estate in Slovenia from 1986, a region renowned for its rich wildlife. Over the decades, the family expanded its presence across Italy and Europe.

Today, the Pietranera family owns two major hunting estates in Italy and exclusively manages select properties in Italy, Bosnia, Croatia, and Turkey. Since 2002, the company has been led by Luca Pietranera (1971), whose global hunting experience defines the philosophy of Hunts Europe where tradition, expertise, and respect for nature come together.

The Italian Hunting Reserve

Our hunting reserves are located in the Apennine Mountains of Italy and cover a total area of approximately 32,000 hectares (about 80,000 acres). This vast and well-managed territory supports a healthy and abundant population of red stag, wild boar, roe deer, and fallow deer.

The landscape is diverse and scenic, ranging from gently rolling hills to true alpine terrain. Three areas feature hilly countryside at elevations between approximately 1,300 and 2,000 feet, while a fourth area rises into mountainous terrain reaching elevations of about 2,300 to 3,300 feet. This variation in altitude and terrain provides ideal conditions for both challenging and rewarding hunting experiences.
